Art Of Noise - Daft

The Art of Noise is een Britse avantgarde popgroep, in 1983 opgericht door producer Trevor Horn en muziekjournalist Paul Morley, bijgestaan door sessie- en studiomusici Anne Dudley, J.J. Jeczalik en Gary Langan, tevens componist en producers. De band maakte op innovatieve wijze gebruik van elektronica en computers in de popmuziek en in het bijzonder de kunst van het samplen. Ze hadden goed geluisterd naar Kraftwerk, die dit gebied succesvol pionierden, maar hun muziek maakte meer gebruik van meer natuurlijke geluiden uit de omgeving, behalve gitaren en synthesizers ook voetstappen en autoclaxons. The Art of Noise wordt ingedeeld als New Wave, Avant-garde en Synthpop, met later wat meer invloeden uit de House. De naam van de groep refereert aan een essay van de futurist Luigi Russolo, The Art of Noises uit 1913

Daft is a compilation collecting Art of Noise LP Who's Afraid of the Art Of Noise? (with one track, "Snapshot", appearing in a longer version than on the original UK LP, but previously released on the Japanese version), along with portions of the Into Battle with the Art of Noise EP and "Moments in Love" remix single. It gives a fairly thorough overview of the Trevor Horn period of the group, prior to its split from the ZTT label. The compilation is also notable for its amusingly venomous liner notes by Paul Morley (under the pseudonym Otto Flake), attacking the new incarnation of the group. In 2003 the album was re-released on Super Audio CD
